Overview
Self-drilling metal plasterboard anchor for a fast, hassle-free fixing wherever a timber or metal stud isn't available, driving straight into the board without a pre-drilled pilot hole, dowel or special setting tool. The self-drilling tip cuts its own thread as the anchor is driven home, so there's no need to switch between a drill bit and a screwdriver, no dowel to lose down a stud cavity, and no special setting tool to buy - just a Pozidriv or Phillips screwdriver, or a low-speed driver bit, and a few turns.
Each anchor is precision die-cast from zinc alloy, giving a considerably higher load capacity and greater long-term durability than standard nylon or plastic wall plugs, while staying light enough to drive home with an ordinary screwdriver or a low-speed driver bit. A wide flange seats flush against the board face once fully driven, spreading the load around the fixing point and leaving a neat, finished appearance.
Because this anchor forms its own hole as it's driven, fitting is a one-step job, with less risk of an underprepared or oversized hole leaving the fixing loose before the screw has even gone in.
Key Features
- Self-drilling design drives directly into plasterboard, drywall or aerated concrete without a pre-drilled pilot hole, dowel or special setting tool
- Precision die-cast from zinc alloy (Zamak) for a considerably higher load capacity and greater long-term durability than standard nylon or plastic wall plugs
- Wide 14.2mm (0.56in) flange seats flush against the board face once driven home, spreading the load around the fixing point for a neat finish
- Compact 28mm (1.10in) length and 6.2mm (0.24in) diameter suited to standard 9.5–15.9mm (3/8–5/8in) plasterboard and gypsum board
- Safe working load of 14kg (31lb) shear and 6kg (13lb) tension in 12.5mm (0.49in) plasterboard, with an ultimate tested load of up to 45kg (99lb) shear
- Pozidriv/Phillips self-drilling thread drives home with an ordinary screwdriver or a low-speed driver bit, with no power drill or special setting tool required
- Designed to take a No.8 sheet-metal screw with a 4.0–4.5mm (0.16–0.18in) shank diameter for the item being hung

Typical Applications
The combination of a genuine metal anchor body and a 14kg (31lb) safe working load makes this a step up from a standard plastic wall plug. Because there's no pilot hole to drill and no separate tool to buy, they also suit jobs with several fixing points to complete in one visit, such as a full curtain rail bracket set or a run of coat hooks.
- Hanging mirrors and picture frames on plasterboard away from a stud
- Fitting curtain rails and coat hooks that need a firmer, longer-lasting hold than a plastic wall plug
- Mounting clocks and smoke alarms to plasterboard walls or ceilings
- Installing light shelving where the load falls within the anchor's rated capacity
- Domestic refurbishment and renovation projects, where fixing into a specific stud location isn't practical
- Rental properties, where a stronger, more durable metal anchor is preferred over a standard plastic wall plug
- Light commercial fit-outs needing a quick, reliable fixing into partition walls away from the frame
Installation Guidance
- Mark the fixing point on the plasterboard, drywall or aerated concrete panel.
- Drive the anchor directly into the surface using a Pozidriv or Phillips screwdriver, or a low-speed driver bit - the self-drilling tip pierces the board and cuts its own thread as it goes, so no pilot hole is needed.
- Keep steady, even pressure on the driver until the anchor is fully seated and the flange sits flush with the board face.
- Insert the fixing screw through the item being hung and tighten progressively into the anchor until secure.
- Avoid over-tightening, as this can strip the board substrate and reduce the anchor's holding power; if an anchor spins freely without gripping, remove it and re-fix a short distance away into fresh board.
- For fixtures at or near the rated load limit, fit two anchors spaced apart to share the load rather than relying on a single fixing point.
