Overview
A2 stainless steel flanged hex head bolts, fully threaded, similar to DIN 6921. Each A2 bolt combines a standard hexagon head with an integral flange in place of a separate flat washer, giving a one-piece fixing that is ready to fit straight from the pack. Being fully threaded along the entire shank rather than having a plain, unthreaded section, the same bolt can be used across a range of clamped material thicknesses without having to match the length precisely to the job, and it will always engage a nut or tapped thread wherever it is cut.
A2 stainless is broadly equivalent to 18/8 stainless - the "18/8" referring to its nominal 18% chromium and 8% nickel content, which is what gives austenitic stainless steel its corrosion resistance and non-magnetic properties. It is the most widely specified stainless grade for general-purpose fixings, offering good resistance to rusting and staining in typical outdoor, domestic and light industrial environments.
The flange formed under the hex head is the defining feature of the DIN 6921 pattern. By spreading the clamping load over a larger bearing surface than a standard hex bolt head, it reduces the risk of the head pulling through or sinking into softer or thinner materials, and it removes the need to source, carry and fit a separate flat washer underneath the head - one less loose part to line up, drop, or lose on site.
The flange has a smooth bearing face, without serration, so it does not bite into the surface underneath. These flange head bolts are also known as flange bolts or flanged hex head bolts, and each flanged hex bolt is ready to fit straight from the pack.
Key Features
- Similar to DIN 6921, a recognised European standard for flanged hexagon bolts
- A2 (18-8 equivalent) stainless steel construction for good general-purpose corrosion resistance
- Integrated flanged head removes the need for a separate flat washer, speeding up fitting
- Larger flange bearing surface reduces the risk of the head sinking into softer or thinner materials
- Smooth flange face without serration, so it does not bite into the surface underneath
- Fully threaded shaft along the entire length of the shank, for flexible use across a range of fixing thicknesses
- Standard hexagon drive, compatible with a normal spanner or socket - no special tools required
- Available across a full diameter range from M5 up to M12

Full size range
| Thread size | Length range (mm) | Length range (approx. in) |
|---|---|---|
| M5 | 8–20mm | 0.31–0.79in |
| M6 | 10–40mm | 0.39–1.57in |
| M8 | 12–50mm | 0.47–1.97in |
| M10 | 20–70mm | 0.79–2.76in |
| M12 | 60mm | 2.36in |
Thread size is the nominal metric diameter of the shank (for example, M8 has an 8mm shank diameter); length is measured from under the head to the tip of the thread, in line with the sizes shown against each SKU.
Every size comes in packs of 2, 10 or 50 stainless steel bolts. Choose M8 (8mm) bolts such as 8mm x 30mm flanged hexagon head bolts, M10 flanged bolts from 20mm to 70mm long, which are 10mm stainless bolts, or the smaller M5 and M6 sizes.
Typical Applications
- Automotive repairs - general chassis, bodywork and under-bonnet fixings, where corrosion resistance and a compact, all-in-one head are useful in a damp or exposed engine bay
- General construction and fabrication - fixing sheet metal, brackets and thin-gauge steelwork, where the flange spreads the clamping load and reduces the risk of the head pulling through the material
- Machinery and equipment assembly - securing guards, panels and enclosures where a self-locating flange saves fitting a loose washer, particularly useful when working in awkward or overhead positions
- Household and DIY fixing jobs - general-purpose fixings around the home and garden, from fitting brackets to assembling outdoor structures, where the A2 stainless build resists everyday moisture and weathering
- Outdoor and exposed fixings - A2 stainless suits typical outdoor and light industrial exposure
- Any application where a separate flat washer would normally be needed under a hex bolt head, but a single, self-contained fixing is preferred for speed and simplicity of fitting
Because the flange is formed as part of the head rather than fitted as a separate component, there is no washer to align, drop, or accidentally leave out during fitting - useful wherever clearance holes are cut to size and a loose washer might not seat cleanly, or where fixings are being made in an awkward or overhead position. The flanged hexagon profile is carried consistently across the full M5 to M12 range, so the same fixing style and fitting method applies whichever diameter the job calls for.
Common Questions
What sizes are available?
24 sizes: M5 x 8, 10, 12, 16 and 20mm; M6 x 10, 12, 16, 20, 25, 30 and 40mm; M8 x 12, 20, 30, 35, 40, 45 and 50mm; M10 x 20, 30, 35 and 70mm; and M12 x 60mm. Each comes in packs of 2, 10 or 50.
What M10 bolt lengths are available?
These M10 (10mm) bolts come in 20mm, 30mm, 35mm and 70mm lengths, and every M10 flanged bolt is fully threaded.
What is the smallest size?
M5 x 8mm, a very small flanged hex bolt.
Is there a 20mm hex bolt?
Yes, in M5, M6, M8 and M10. M12 comes in 60mm.
Do I need a washer?
No. The flange under the hex head does the job of a separate flat washer and spreads the clamping load over a larger bearing surface.
Does the flange have serrations?
No. The flange has a smooth bearing face, without serration.
Are they fully threaded?
Yes. The thread runs along the entire length of the shank, so one bolt suits a range of clamped thicknesses.
Can I use them outdoors?
Yes. A2 stainless steel offers good resistance to rusting and staining in typical outdoor, domestic and light industrial environments.
Which tool do I need?
A normal spanner or socket to fit the hexagon head.
How is the length measured?
From under the head to the tip of the thread.
