Overview
Coarse thread drywall screws (plasterboard screws) in black phosphate for fixing plasterboard to timber (wood) studs, joists and ceiling frames, for trade and DIY drylining work alike. The coarse thread and sharp point make installation of plasterboard quick and effective, and the screw design ensures solid fastening of the boards to timber, which translates into durability. Eleven sizes, from 3.5mm x 25mm up to 4.8mm x 160mm, make these plasterboard fixings suit single boards through to thicker build-ups and deeper timber.
How It Works
The coarse thread is made for timber: its wide, deep turns grip the stud or joist firmly and pull the board tight against the frame. The sharp point gets each screw started quickly; no pilot hole is needed, as the sharp, self-tapping point starts straight into the timber. The bugle head and milling ring give precise installation and a neat appearance of the mounted boards: driven with a PH2 bit, the head draws down to sit flush with the paper face, ready for jointing and painting.
Black Phosphate Coating
The anti-corrosion black phosphate coating gives corrosion resistance, helping protect the screw against rust and extending its life. The screws are CE marked to EN 14566 and declared reaction to fire class A1.

Typical Applications
For fixing plasterboard to timber studs, joists and frames in timber-frame drylining, in homes and commercial buildings:
- Stud and partition walls: plasterboard fixed straight to the timber frame
- Ceilings: boards fixed up into timber joists and the timber frames of suspended ceilings
- Renovation and refurbishment work where plasterboard is being fixed or replaced
- Finishing projects in residential and commercial construction: walls, ceilings and panels
- Single boards with the 3.5mm sizes (25mm to 55mm); thicker or multi-layer board build-ups and deeper sections of timber with the 4.2mm (70mm to 90mm) and 4.8mm (100mm to 160mm) sizes
Installation Guidance
Fit a PH2 Phillips bit to a clutch-controlled or depth-adjustable driver and drive the screw until the head sits level with the paper face of the plasterboard, without breaking through it. This keeps the fixing flush and ready for jointing and painting. Choose a length that passes fully through the board and well into the timber stud or joist behind it.
Common Questions
Do I need to drill a pilot hole?
No. The sharp point starts straight into the timber stud or joist as the screw is driven.
Which size do I need?
Choose a length that passes through the board and well into the timber. The 3.5mm sizes (25mm to 55mm) suit single boards; the 4.2mm (70mm and 90mm) and 4.8mm (100mm to 160mm) sizes suit thicker or multi-layer build-ups and deeper timber.
Which bit do I need?
A PH2 Phillips bit, ideally in a clutch-controlled or depth-adjustable driver.
What pack sizes are available?
Every size comes in packs of 20, 100, 200 or 500 screws.
