Overview
Confirmat system screws for chipboard, MDF and particleboard carcass construction, engineered with a deep coarse thread and a broad unthreaded shoulder that together form a strong 90° joint in engineered wood panels, the standard fixing used to assemble knock-down cabinet and furniture carcasses without glue.
What sets it apart from an ordinary wood screw is the broad unthreaded shoulder beneath the head: rather than threading all the way up to the head like a chipboard screw, it sits in the panel like a steel dowel, locking the two boards together and resisting the racking movement that causes standard wood screws to work loose in chipboard or MDF over time. The screws are made from steel with a bright zinc-plated (BZP) finish for general corrosion resistance, and are driven with a hex (Allen) key rather than a screwdriver, which lets more torque be applied without cam-out.
This hex socket confirmat screw is designed for joining wood, wood-based panels and furniture construction boards. The hex socket simplifies and speeds up assembly with a hex key, the optimised thread allows efficient installation, and the finished joint offers excellent strength and stability. Four sizes are available, 5.0 x 40mm, 5.0 x 50mm, 6.4 x 50mm and 7.0 x 50mm, in packs of 10, 50, 100 or 250, so the same MDF screw covers anything from a single cabinet to a full run of units.
Key Features
- Broad unthreaded shoulder acts like a steel dowel beneath the head, locking panels together and resisting the racking movement that loosens standard wood screws in chipboard or MDF
- Manufactured from steel with a bright zinc-plated (BZP) finish for general corrosion resistance
- Hex (Allen) drive accepts higher torque than a screwdriver slot, reducing the risk of cam-out during assembly
- Available in shank diameters from 5.0mm to 7.0mm (0.20-0.28in) and lengths from 40mm to 50mm (1.57-1.97in) to suit different board thicknesses
- Flat countersunk head seats flush with the panel face when driven into the correct stepped pilot hole
- Optimised thread for efficient installation, giving excellent strength and stability of the connection

Typical Applications
Confirmat screws are the standard fixing wherever engineered board panels are joined face-to-edge or edge-to-edge in a 90° carcass joint:
- Kitchen and bedroom cabinet carcasses - joining side panels, bases, tops and shelves in chipboard or MDF, where the shoulder's resistance to racking helps keep corners square under the repeated door and drawer use a carcass sees.
- Wardrobe and bookcase assembly - larger panel joints that call for a mechanically strong, glue-free fixing.
- Office furniture and shop fittings - desks, cupboards and modular fittings built from chipboard or MDF panels that need a fast, reliable knock-down joint.
- General DIY shelving and storage units - any home-built unit in chipboard, MDF or particleboard where an ordinary wood screw would be prone to working loose in the board's low-density core.
- Wooden structures and fittings - other projects that need solid, durable connections between wood and wood-based panels, chosen by professionals and DIY enthusiasts alike, for both indoor and outdoor applications.
Installation Guidance
Confirmat screws need a stepped pilot hole, not a plain drilled hole. A dedicated stepped drill bit bores the shoulder clearance, the thread pilot and the head countersink in a single pass, which keeps the panel face free of splitting and lets the flat head sit flush once driven home:
- Always use the hex drive size listed in the specification table above - a loose-fitting key will round out the socket under torque before the screw is fully home.
Common Questions
What sizes are available?
Four sizes: 5.0 x 40mm and 5.0 x 50mm with a 7.5mm (0.30in) head, 6.4 x 50mm with a 9.5mm (0.37in) head, and 7.0 x 50mm with a 10.5mm (0.41in) head. Every dimension is listed in the specification table above.
Which hex key do I need?
A 3mm hex (Allen) key for the 5.0mm screws and a 4mm key for the 6.4mm and 7.0mm screws.
Do I need to pre-drill?
Yes. Confirmat screws need a stepped pilot hole, bored in a single pass with a dedicated stepped drill bit, as in the Installation Guidance above.
Do I need glue?
No. The broad unthreaded shoulder locks the panels together and forms a strong 90° joint without glue.
Can I use them outdoors?
Yes. The manufacturer lists both indoor and outdoor applications, and the bright zinc-plated finish gives corrosion resistance.
What pack sizes are available?
Packs of 10, 50, 100 or 250 screws in every size.
