Galvanised Narrow Flat Bracket | Heavy Duty Mending Plate

Overview
Galvanised steel narrow flat bracket (mending plate), finished in silver galvanic zinc, designed for reinforcing and joining timber wherever a low-profile, flush-fitting connector is needed. It is narrower than a standard flat bracket, so it sits neatly on slim timber sections and board edges without overhanging - making it the natural choice wherever a full-width mending plate would look bulky or foul an adjoining surface.
The plate is used to splice or reinforce timber lengths, repair cracked or weakened joints, and join narrow timber sections edge-to-edge or face-to-face. Fixing holes are pre-punched along the full length of the plate and sized to take ring-shank nails (ø4mm), wood screws (ø4mm or ø5mm), M5 bolts, or M5 concrete anchors where fixing into masonry - so the same bracket can be adapted from a quick nailed repair to a bolted, higher-strength connection simply by choosing a different fixing. The galvanic (electro-plated) zinc coating gives good general corrosion resistance for indoor use and sheltered outdoor applications, and the bright silver finish that this electro-plating process produces means the plate stays neat and presentable where it will remain visible after fitting, rather than only being hidden inside a joint.
Key Features
- Silver galvanic (electro-plated) zinc coating over steel for good general corrosion resistance indoors and in sheltered outdoor settings
- Narrower than a standard flat bracket, so it fits flush on slim timber sections and board edges without overhanging
- Eight lengths available, from 50mm (1.97″) up to 300mm (11.81″), to suit everything from small repairs to longer splices
- Plate gauge steps up with size - 1.5mm thick on the 50-120mm lengths, increasing to 2.0mm on the 160-300mm lengths for proportionally greater strength on the longer plates
- Fixing holes pre-punched along the full length, sized for ø4mm ring-shank nails, ø4mm or ø5mm wood screws, M5 bolts, or M5 concrete anchors
- Multiple fixing options let the same plate be used for a quick nailed repair or upgraded to a bolted connection where more holding strength is needed
- Flat, low-profile design keeps the finished repair discreet - useful where the bracket stays visible or where clearance around the joint is tight
- Suitable for joining timber edge-to-edge or face-to-face, as well as for splicing lengths and general crack or joint repair
Specification
- Material: Steel, silver galvanic (electro) zinc plating
- Design: Narrow flat mending plate with pre-punched fixing holes along the length
- Fixing compatibility: ø4mm ring-shank nails, ø4/ø5mm wood screws, M5 bolts, M5 concrete anchors
The plate is available in the eight lengths below, each pre-punched along its length for the fixings listed above; plate width and thickness increase in proportion to the length:
| Length (mm) | Length (inches) | Width (mm) | Width (inches) | Thickness |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 50mm | 1.97″ | 14mm | 0.55″ | 1.5mm |
| 60mm | 2.36″ | 14mm | 0.55″ | 1.5mm |
| 80mm | 3.15″ | 15mm | 0.59″ | 1.5mm |
| 100mm | 3.94″ | 15mm | 0.59″ | 1.5mm |
| 120mm | 4.72″ | 15mm | 0.59″ | 1.5mm |
| 160mm | 6.30″ | 19mm | 0.75″ | 2.0mm |
| 250mm | 9.84″ | 22mm | 0.87″ | 2.0mm |
| 300mm | 11.81″ | 22mm | 0.87″ | 2.0mm |
Typical Applications
- Furniture repair and restoration - splicing or reinforcing broken rails, legs and frame members
- Repairing cracked or weakened timber joints in shelving, cabinets and frames
- Splicing timber lengths where a full-width bracket would be too bulky or would overhang the timber
- Joining narrow timber sections edge-to-edge or face-to-face
- General carpentry and joinery repairs needing a discreet, low-profile connector rather than a visible full-size bracket
- Fixing along slim rails, thin battens and narrow board edges where a standard flat bracket would not sit flush
- Both indoor furniture-grade repairs and sheltered outdoor timber work, given the galvanised finish
- Trade and DIY repairs alike, since the choice of nail, screw or bolt fixing lets the plate be scaled from a light touch-up repair to a more substantial reinforcement
Installation Guidance
Centre the plate over the joint, crack or splice so the pre-punched holes sit evenly on both sides of the repair, then mark the hole positions before fixing. For a straightforward timber-to-timber repair, drive ring-shank nails or wood screws through the holes into both pieces of timber; for a stronger, more permanent connection, use M5 bolts through the plate instead. Where the plate is being fixed into masonry rather than timber, use the M5 concrete anchors and ensure the anchor is suited to the masonry type before fixing. Keep the plate flat and square against the timber surface as you work, fixing from one end along the length to the other, to avoid the narrow plate twisting, bowing or lifting away from the surface as it's tightened down.
