U-Shape Post Support with Raised Saddle

Heavy-duty U-shape post support bracket for bolting timber fence, gate and pergola posts down onto concrete, paving or decking, using a deep pressed-steel throat that cradles the post on three sides while a raised saddle step lifts the timber clear of the fixing surface below.

The bracket is pressed from 4mm (0.16in) structural steel and hot-dip galvanised for all-round corrosion resistance, supplied as standard in a bright silver finish; a black powder-coated version is also available where a more discreet, contemporary look is needed to match darker fencing hardware.

Because it bolts straight down onto an existing hard surface rather than requiring the post itself to be set into wet concrete, it gives a quick, mechanical way to anchor a new post or repair an existing one – particularly useful where an old post has rotted off at ground level and the surrounding paving, decking or masonry footing needs to stay intact.

Specification

Steel thickness, side wall height, base plate width and number of fixing holes are identical across all three sizes – only the internal U-channel width, the base hole diameters and the overall weight change to match the post being fitted, so select the size that corresponds to the actual dimensions of the timber on site rather than the nominal post size.

Installation Guidance

• Bolt the flat base plate down onto a concrete footing, paving slab or decking surface through the three base fixing holes, using fixings suited to the substrate – concrete anchors on masonry, coach screws or bolts on timber decking
• Set the timber post into the U-channel so that it rests on the raised saddle step, keeping the end grain clear of the fixing surface below
• Check the post is plumb (vertical) before final tightening, then secure it through the side fixing holes using wood screws or bolts sized to suit the timber
• Tighten the base and side fixings evenly rather than fully tightening one side first, to keep the post square in the bracket
• Choose the size that gives a snug fit around the actual dimensions of the post being used – measure the timber before ordering to avoid excess play in the bracket
