Heavy Duty Fence Post Spike Ground Screw Anchor Support
20% off applied
Overview
Heavy-duty screw-in ground anchor for fence posts, pergola and gazebo uprights, and other timber structures, driven directly into the soil to give a solid, immovable footing without digging a hole or mixing concrete.
A helical screw flight wraps around the lower section of the galvanised steel tube, so turning the anchor pulls it down into the ground and compacts the surrounding soil around the flight as it goes, resisting both pull-out and sideways loading once it is fully set. The body is manufactured from 1.8mm (0.07in) S235 structural steel, hot-dip galvanised to BS EN ISO 1461 by immersion in molten zinc at around 450°C (840°F); this gives a coating of 80-90 microns, never less than 60 microns, well suited to permanent contact with damp soil. A drainage hole at the base of the tube lets rainwater escape rather than pool inside, reducing the risk of internal rust and frost damage over winter. At the top, an open U-bracket with two side walls accepts a matching timber or box-section post, which is fixed in place through the pre-formed square holes in the bracket walls with coach screws or bolts (not included) once the anchor is driven to the correct depth and checked for level.
Key Features
- Helical screw flight on the lower tube draws the anchor into the ground as it is turned, compacting the surrounding soil and resisting both pull-out and sideways loads once set, with no digging or concrete required.
- Manufactured from 1.8mm (0.07in) S235 structural steel for a rigid, long-lasting anchor body.
- Hot-dip galvanised to BS EN ISO 1461, giving a zinc coating of 80-90 microns (never less than 60 microns) for long-term protection against rust in permanently damp soil.
- Drainage hole at the base of the tube lets rainwater escape rather than collect inside, cutting the risk of internal corrosion and frost damage over winter.
- Open U-shaped top bracket with two side walls accepts a matching timber or box-section post, fixed through the pre-formed square holes with coach screws or bolts once installed.
- Available in four bracket sizes, 80mm, 90mm, 100mm and 120mm (3.15in to 4.72in), to suit posts from 80 x 80mm up to 120 x 120mm.
- Consistent 1.8mm (0.07in) tube wall thickness across every size, so the smaller anchors are just as robustly made as the largest.
- Optional galvanised driving rod (420 x 15mm / 16.5 x 0.6in) available on this listing, for driving the anchor in without marking or distorting the bracket.
Specification
| Bracket size | Suits post up to | Overall length | Approx. weight (each) |

| 80mm (3.15in) | 80 x 80mm (3.15 x 3.15in) | 685mm (27in) | 2.13kg (4.70lb) |
| 90mm (3.54in) | 90 x 90mm (3.54 x 3.54in) | 685mm (27in) | 2.2kg (4.85lb) |
| 100mm (3.94in) | 100 x 100mm (3.94 x 3.94in) | 865mm (34in) | 2.75kg (6.06lb) |

Tube wall thickness is 1.8mm (0.07in) and the U-bracket is 4.0mm (0.16in) thick across every size. A galvanised driving rod (420 x 15mm / 16.5 x 0.6in) is available on this listing as an optional accessory, for driving the anchor in without marking or distorting the bracket.
Typical Applications
Because the anchor is screwed into the ground rather than set in a dug and concreted hole, it suits any project where a fast, mess-free fixing is preferred to a traditional foundation. Typical applications include:
- New and replacement garden fence posts and panels
- Repairing rotted or wind-damaged posts without breaking out old concrete footings
- Pergolas, arbours and gazebo uprights
- Swing, seesaw and slide frame legs
- Decking and patio support posts
- Washing line and rotary dryer poles
- Flagpoles and garden parasol bases
- Bird feeder and bird table posts
- Shed and outbuilding corner posts on soft to medium ground
The range of four bracket sizes, from 80mm up to 120mm, means the same fixing method can be used for anything from a light-duty parasol base to a full-size fence or gazebo post, simply by choosing the bracket that matches the timber section in use.
Installation Guidance
- Choose the bracket size that matches your post section, then position the anchor point-down on the ground exactly where the post is to stand.
- Fit the driving rod through the hole in the tube and use it to turn and hammer the anchor vertically into the ground.
- Check regularly with a spirit level so the bracket stays plumb as it is driven down.
- In most garden soil the screw thread will draw the anchor in without a pilot hole; in hard, stony or compacted ground, starting with a small pilot hole makes turning easier.
- Once the anchor is fully driven and level, drop the post into the U-bracket, check it for plumb, and fix it through the pre-formed square holes in the bracket walls with coach screws or bolts sized to suit your post.
