Overview

Heavy-duty galvanised steel angle brackets in a 2.0mm (0.08in) gauge, also known as L brackets, metal angle brackets or corner braces, for general-purpose 90° joints and reinforcement in timber and light structural framing. The L-shaped profile is described by two dimensions – leg width (A×B, the two arms of the bracket) and overall length (C) – so the same style of bracket can serve as either a compact corner gusset or a long reinforcing strip, depending on the size chosen.

A 40×40×40mm bracket, for example, is a small, square-footprint corner gusset suited to a single point fixing, while a 40×40×200mm piece keeps the same 40mm leg width but stretches out into a long angle strip for reinforcing a longer joint or edge. The range runs from small shelving and furniture brackets up to larger 100×100mm braces, across 15 sizes covering four leg widths (40mm, 60mm, 80mm and 100mm) and lengths from 40mm up to 200mm – see the full table below for exact dimensions and weights.

The brackets are made from pre-galvanised Z275 steel (DX51D + Z275), with a zinc coating of not less than 275g/m² (0.90oz/ft²) applied to both sides, about 20 microns (0.0008in) thick, giving high resistance to external factors and corrosion, especially in open-air structures such as fences and decking. Fixing holes are pre-punched at the factory on every size, so each bracket can be offered straight up to the joint and fixed in place without any additional drilling of the bracket itself.

Key Features

  • 2.0mm (0.08in) gauge steel construction, suited to general-purpose 90° joints and reinforcement in timber and light structural framing
  • Pre-galvanised Z275 steel (DX51D + Z275), with a zinc coating of not less than 275g/m² (0.90oz/ft²) on both sides, for high corrosion resistance, especially in open-air structures
  • 15 sizes spanning four leg widths – 40mm (1.57in), 60mm (2.36in), 80mm (3.15in) and 100mm (3.94in)
  • Overall lengths from 40mm (1.57in) up to 200mm (7.87in), covering both compact square-footprint corner gussets and long reinforcing angle strips
  • Leg width (A×B) and overall length (C) given for every size, making it straightforward to match a bracket to an existing joint
  • Pre-punched 5mm (0.20in) fixing holes, for fixing to timber with 4mm (0.16in) connector nails or 5mm (0.20in) Torx connector screws
  • Weight listed for every size, from 45g (1.6oz) for the smallest 40×40×40mm bracket up to 290g (10.2oz) for the largest 100×100×100mm
  • Load data for every size: characteristic capacity (Pmax,k) up to 29.5kN (6,632 lbf) for a joint with two 100×100×100mm brackets
  • Steel construction throughout, CE marked under a European Technical Assessment

Load Data

Characteristic load-carrying capacity (Pmax,k) from the manufacturer's data, determined by tests or calculation for pressure loading, with timber of 350kg/m³ (21.8lb/ft³) density and the brackets fixed to the manufacturer's nailing pattern. The values are given for a complete joint made with two brackets, so the force per bracket is half of the value listed.

Typical Applications

With 15 sizes spanning both compact corner gussets and long reinforcing strips, the range of metal brackets for wood covers general 90° corner work as well as jobs where a longer run of joint or edge needs bracing. Typical uses include:

  • Shelving and furniture assembly, squaring up and reinforcing corner joints
  • General timber framing, bracing stud, rail and similar joints at 90°
  • Light structural bracing wherever a timber joint benefits from additional mechanical reinforcement
  • Workbench and rack construction, where repeated corner joints need a consistent, pre-punched bracket
  • Fence and decking repairs, reinforcing rail-to-post or panel corner joints
  • Garden sleepers, timber joists and pergolas, bracing 90° timber joints in open-air structures
  • Any DIY job needing a standard right angle bracket, 90° corner bracket or reinforcing angle strip
  • Smaller 40×40mm (1.57 × 1.57in) sizes for compact, single-point fixings such as small shelving or furniture corners
  • Longer sizes from 100mm to 200mm (3.94in–7.87in) for reinforcing a longer joint or running edge rather than a single corner point, since the same leg width is available across several lengths

Installation Guidance

Position the bracket against the internal or external corner of the joint, with each leg flush against its respective face. Mark the fixing holes through the pre-punched pattern, then secure to the timber with 4mm (0.16in) connector nails or 5mm (0.20in) Torx connector screws. Where a joint or edge runs longer than a single small bracket can span, choose one of the longer 100–200mm (3.94–7.87in) options in the same leg width rather than fitting two short brackets end to end. When choosing a size, match the leg width (A×B) to the timber section or adjoining bracket it will sit against, and use the overall length (C) figure to check the bracket will fit within the available joint before fixing.

Common Questions

Which size do I need?
Match the leg width (A×B) to the timber it will sit against, then use the overall length (C) to check the bracket fits the joint. All 15 sizes are in the table above.

How do I fix them?
Through the pre-punched 5mm (0.20in) holes, with 4mm (0.16in) connector nails or 5mm (0.20in) Torx connector screws, with no drilling of the bracket.

Can I use them outdoors?
Yes. Pre-galvanised Z275 steel, zinc-coated on both sides (not less than 275g/m²), gives high resistance to external factors and corrosion, especially in open-air structures such as fences and decking.

How much load do they carry?
From 14kN to 29.5kN characteristic capacity (Pmax,k) for a joint with two brackets, depending on size. Every size is listed in the Load Data table.
