Heavy Duty Galvanised Lifting Eye Bolt - Male Thread (DIN 580)

Overview
Galvanised steel eye bolt with a male threaded shank, manufactured to DIN 580. This is an externally threaded stud that screws directly into a tapped hole, with a rounded eye head at the top for attaching a shackle, hook, sling or rope. Because the thread is on the outside of the shank (a "male" thread), the bolt fixes straight into a pre-tapped hole or captive nut, rather than needing the separate nut-and-washer arrangement used by female-thread eye nuts - a simple way to build a fixed lifting or anchor point into machinery, equipment, brackets or structural steelwork.
Every size follows the DIN 580 profile, so the eye's inner diameter, outer diameter and the bolt's overall height are all matched to the thread size - larger threads carry proportionally larger eyes, giving suitable clearance for whatever shackle, hook or rope is being connected. The galvanised finish gives a durable, corrosion-resistant surface, making these eye bolts suited to both indoor workshop use and general outdoor or site conditions.
The range runs from M6 up to M20, so the same DIN 580 profile covers everything from a small eye bolt for light equipment and fixtures, through to a substantially larger M20 eye bolt for heavier machinery and plant. Because eye and height dimensions scale with the thread size in a fixed, standardised way, selecting the correct bolt is simply a case of matching the thread size to the tapped hole or captive nut it will be fitted into.
Key Features
- Manufactured to DIN 580, the recognised European standard for threaded lifting eye bolts, so thread engagement and eye geometry stay consistent across every size.
- Male (external) thread on the shank - screws directly into a tapped hole or captive nut, with no separate nut needed on the reverse side of the fixing.
- Galvanised steel construction for corrosion resistance and everyday durability in workshop, construction and outdoor settings.
- Eye sized to match the bolt: inner diameter runs from 16mm on the M6 up to 60mm on the M20, so smaller and larger shackles, hooks or ropes can all be paired with an appropriately sized eye.
- Eight thread sizes available, from M6 up to M20, covering everything from light-duty fixing points through to heavier machinery and equipment.
- Overall bolt height scales with thread size, from 31mm on the M6 to 109mm on the M20, useful for checking clearance before specifying a fixing.
- Eye head suits a range of connecting hardware - shackles, hooks, slings and rope can all be fed through or attached directly.
- Standardised DIN 580 profile makes sizing straightforward - the tapped hole's thread size is all that's needed to identify the correct eye bolt and know the resulting eye and height dimensions.
Specification and eye dimensions per size
| Thread | Eye inner diameter | Eye outer diameter | Overall height |
|---|---|---|---|
| M6 | 16mm | 28mm | 31mm |
| M8 | 20mm | 36mm | 36mm |
| M10 | 25mm | 45mm | 45mm |
| M12 | 30mm | 54mm | 53mm |
| M14 | 35mm | 63mm | 62mm |
| M16 | 40mm | 72mm | 71mm |
| M18 | 50mm | 90mm | 90mm |
| M20 | 60mm | 108mm | 109mm |
Typical Uses
- Lifting points on machinery, plant and equipment, where a permanent threaded eye is needed so a hook or shackle can be attached for hoisting.
- Securing lines, cables and tie-downs on construction and building sites, using the eye as a fixed anchor point for rope or webbing.
- Rigging points for lighting, staging, and event or theatrical structures, where a threaded stud eye bolt allows fixing into a tapped bracket, truss plate or beam.
- General fixing wherever a threaded stud combined with a load-bearing eye is required - for example connecting a shackle, carabiner or turnbuckle through the eye.
- Fabrication and engineering assemblies where a standardised, DIN-profile eye point needs to be built into a tapped component or housing.
- Workshop and garage use as a fixed anchor for pulling, hoisting or securing loads with a chain, rope or ratchet strap.
- Pairing with other lifting hardware - a shackle, carabiner or hook connected through the eye - to build up a complete lifting or tie-down assembly at a fixed point.
- Smaller sizes (M6-M10) for lighter fixing and anchor points on equipment, cabinets and fixtures; larger sizes (M12-M20) for heavier plant, machinery and structural applications where a bigger eye and taller overall height are needed.
Installation Guidance
The shank's male thread screws directly into a matching tapped hole or captive nut of the same size, from M6 up to M20. Drill and tap the mounting point to the correct depth, then turn the bolt in by hand or with a spanner on the eye until it is fully seated, with the underside of the eye sitting flush against the mounting surface. Once seated, the eye is ready to take a shackle, hook, sling or rope. As this is a single threaded stud rather than a bolt-and-nut pairing, no separate nut is required on the reverse side of the fixing - simply ensure the tapped hole is deep enough and cut to the correct thread size before fitting.
