Penny washers to DIN 9021 / ISO 7093 in white zinc-plated steel, with an extra-large outer diameter that spreads the load of a screw or bolt. Also known as fender washers, mudguard washers or repair washers, these large flat metal washers help stop a fixing digging into, cracking or pulling through soft, thin or worn material, from timber and plasterboard to sheet metal panels. Twelve sizes from M4 to M30, in packs of 2 to 200.

How It Works
The enlarged contact surface spreads the clamping load evenly and reduces the pressure on the fixing and on the material beneath it. For the same bolt size, a penny washer covers a much wider area than a standard flat washer, so the head of a screw or bolt (or the nut) bears on a broad, flat face. The same wide face bridges oversized, worn or damaged fixing holes, and helps limit damage from friction and vibration.

Sizes at a glance: the M6 flat washer is 18mm across and 1.5-1.6mm thick; M8 penny washers (M8 washers for 8mm bolts and screws) are 24mm across with an 8.4mm hole and 2mm thick; the M10 washer suits a 10mm bolt, with a 10.5mm hole and a 30mm outer diameter; and the largest metal washers, M24 and M30, are 72mm and 92mm across, 5mm and 6mm thick.

Match the M size to your bolt or screw: an M8 washer suits an M8 (8mm) bolt or screw, an M10 washer an M10 (10mm) one, and so on up to M30. So washers for M8 bolts are the M8 size, and 4mm flat washers are the M4 size, 12mm across.

How are penny washers different from standard flat washers?
For the same bolt size, penny washers have a much larger outer diameter, so they spread the load over a wider area and help stop the fixing pulling through.
