Premium Galvanised Steel Wire Rope Cable - Heavy Duty

Premium galvanised steel wire rope cable, made from multiple zinc-coated steel wires twisted into a flexible multi-strand cable, manufactured to a range of European wire rope constructions covered by standards including DIN 3052, DIN 3053, DIN 3055, DIN 3060 and DIN 3066. Each individual wire carries its own zinc coating before the strands are laid up, so corrosion resistance runs right through the rope rather than sitting on the surface only – a genuine advantage wherever the rope will be exposed to damp, outdoor or general workshop conditions over the long term.

The multi-wire, multi-strand build keeps the finished rope flexible enough to run around pulleys, cleats and fixing points, while still delivering the tensile strength expected of a steel-cored cable. That combination of flexibility and strength is what makes a laid-up multi-strand rope, rather than a single solid wire, the right choice wherever the cable needs to be bent, looped or worked by hand around a fitting. It's sold by the metre, so you can order the exact length your job needs rather than being tied to a fixed pre-cut coil.

The range runs from 1mm (0.039in) fine wire rope right up to 14mm (0.551in) heavy-duty cable, all covered by the same family of DIN standards and finished with the same wire-level galvanising. That breadth means the same trusted construction and finish is available whether you need a light cable for trellising a climbing plant or a substantial rope for rigging and load-securing work – you're simply choosing the diameter that suits the job.

Key Features

• Individually galvanised steel wires, zinc-coated before laying up for all-round corrosion resistance rather than a surface-only finish
• Flexible multi-wire, multi-strand construction that runs smoothly around pulleys, cleats and other fixing points
• Manufactured to established European wire rope standards, including DIN 3052, DIN 3053, DIN 3055, DIN 3060 and DIN 3066
• Wide diameter range from 1mm (0.039in) up to 14mm (0.551in), covering everything from fine garden wire to heavy-duty cable
• Available with either a steel core or a fibre core (FC), depending on diameter
• Common wire rope constructions include 1x7, 1x19, 6x7, 6x19 and 6x37 (wires per strand x number of strands)
• Sold by the metre, so you can order the precise length required rather than a fixed coil
• Compatible with standard wire rope grips/clamps, thimbles, swaged ferrules and crimped sleeves for termination

Specification

Construction: individual galvanised steel wires are twisted together into strands, and the strands are twisted around a central core to form the finished rope. Typical constructions for this type of product include 1x7, 1x19, 6x7, 6x19 and 6x37 (wires per strand x number of strands), with either a steel core or a fibre core (FC) depending on the diameter. The more wires per strand, the more flexible the rope tends to be for a given diameter – useful to bear in mind when choosing between a stiffer, more abrasion-resistant build and a softer, easier-to-handle one. As with any wire rope, always check a suitably rated working load for your specific diameter and construction before using it in a lifting or other safety-critical application.

Typical Applications

• General lifting and rigging tasks around the home, garden and workshop, where a flexible, corrosion-resistant cable is needed
• Securing and tying down loads, including tarpaulins, trailer loads and stored equipment
• Garden and agricultural fencing or tensioning wires, run between posts to keep a fence line straight and taut
• DIY balustrade and decking infill, where a taut length of cable fills the gap between uprights on a run of decking or a staircase
• Washing lines that need to stay taut and shrug off wet weather without rusting through
• Plant support and trellising, giving climbing plants, vines and trained fruit trees a strong, weatherproof line to grow against
• General-purpose towing and tie-down tasks around the home, garden and workshop

As a rough guide, the finer diameters in the range are easiest to handle for lighter, more decorative jobs such as trellising, washing lines and balustrade infill, while the heavier diameters are better suited to rigging, towing and load-securing tasks where more strength and abrasion resistance is called for. Because every diameter is finished the same way, you don't lose any corrosion protection by stepping down to a lighter cable for a smaller job.

Fitting & Termination Guidance

How you finish the ends of the rope depends largely on the diameter and the job in hand. On smaller diameters, wire rope grips/clamps used in pairs with a thimble give a strong, adjustable looped-back eye that can be tightened down by hand tools – ideal where you may need to re-tension or re-terminate the rope later. On larger diameters, a swaged ferrule or crimped sleeve gives a stronger, more permanent termination, compressed onto the rope with the correct crimping tool for that size. Whichever method you use, always leave enough spare length at each end to form a secure loop or splice before you cut the rope to its final working length, and match the grip, thimble or ferrule size to the rope diameter you've ordered – an undersized fitting won't grip properly, and an oversized one won't seat correctly on the wire. A cut end will also start to unravel if it isn't secured, so bind or tape the end before or immediately after cutting to keep the strands and wires in place while you work.
