Overview
Zinc plated steel Nyloc lock nuts in 13 metric sizes from M3 to M24, manufactured to DIN 985 (equivalent to ISO 10511), the standard for the low/thin-type prevailing-torque hexagon nut. Instead of relying on thread deformation or a separate spring washer to hold position, each nut carries a nylon insert collar moulded into the top of the hex body. As the nut is run down the bolt, the nylon ring grips the thread crest just before the metal thread takes over fully, creating a continuous prevailing-torque lock that resists loosening under vibration, repeated movement, and thermal cycling.
The hexagon body itself is zinc-plated steel, giving reliable general-purpose corrosion resistance for both indoor and outdoor fixing work. Because the nylon insert does the gripping, the insert provides a permanent thread lock while still allowing disassembly. This makes Nyloc nuts a practical choice wherever a fixing may need to be checked, adjusted, or serviced over its life rather than fitted once and left permanently undisturbed.

- Zinc-plated steel hexagon body for general-purpose corrosion resistance, suitable for indoor and outdoor fixings
- Integral nylon insert collar creates a prevailing-torque lock that resists loosening from vibration and repeated movement, without needing a separate lock washer
- Reliable protection against spontaneous loosening without the need for additional spring washers or thread-locking compounds, even under dynamic loads and shocks
- Compliance with DIN 985 / ISO 10511 gives dimensional repeatability and full interchangeability
- Polyamide (nylon) insert provides a permanent thread lock while still allowing disassembly for maintenance or adjustment
- ISO metric coarse-pitch thread throughout the range
- Installation with a standard open-end spanner or socket: no special tools required (spanner size for each thread in the table below)
- Dependable performance under dynamic loads, shocks and varying temperatures
- Supplied in 13 thread sizes from M3 to M24 for mechanical engineering, automotive, construction and electronics fixings

Dimensions per the DIN 985 standard (low/thin-type prevailing-torque hexagon nut), taken from published DIN 985 fastener specification tables. Nut height is the overall height including the nylon insert collar; the width across flats is the correct spanner or socket size for that thread.
Typical Applications
Because the nylon insert locks the nut in place independently of torque alone, these Nyloc nuts suit any fixing where vibration, repeated movement, or thermal cycling could otherwise work a plain hexagon nut loose over time. Typical uses include:
- Mechanical engineering and machine construction, industrial installations and production lines
- Household appliances and electronics
- Automotive and machinery assembly, where engine, chassis, and moving-part vibration is a constant factor
- General construction and steel fabrication, securing structural brackets, frames, and fixings that need to hold their setting over time
- Electrical enclosures and control panels, where equipment vibration and thermal cycling from heat-generating components can loosen standard fixings
- HVAC and pipework brackets, where the running vibration of fans, compressors, and pumps is transmitted through the mounting
- Racking, shelving, and storage system assembly, particularly on joints that may be loaded and unloaded repeatedly
- DIY and furniture assembly, wherever a reliable lock nut is preferred over a plain nut and separate lock washer
- Any fixing that may need to be periodically removed for maintenance or adjustment, since the polyamide insert provides a permanent thread lock while still allowing disassembly
Installation Guidance
Match the nut to the corresponding metric bolt or threaded rod, using the width across flats in the table above to identify the correct spanner or socket size. Start the nut by hand where possible to keep it running straight and avoid cross-threading, then run it down using a spanner, ratchet, or socket, with the nylon collar facing outward so it is the last part to engage the thread. You will feel increased resistance as the nylon insert grips the thread crest – this is the prevailing-torque lock taking effect, and is normal. Keep turning until the nut draws up tight against the joint face. For structural or safety-critical joints, tighten to the torque specification appropriate to the bolt size and property class rather than judging by feel alone.
Common Questions
Which size do I need?
Match the nut to the thread size of your bolt or threaded rod, for example an M10 nut for an M10 bolt. The width across flats in the table above gives the spanner or socket size.
Which way round does the nut go?
With the nylon collar facing outward, so it is the last part to engage the thread. You will feel increased resistance as the nylon insert grips the thread: this is the lock taking effect.
Do I need a spring washer as well?
No. The nylon insert protects against spontaneous loosening without the need for additional spring washers or thread-locking compounds.
Can the nut be removed?
Yes. The polyamide insert provides a permanent thread lock while still allowing disassembly.
What pack sizes are available?
Packs of 2, 4, 10, 25, 50 or 100 nuts; M22 comes in packs of 1, 2, 4, 25, 50 or 100.
