Premium Wafer Head Baypole Tek Screws for UPVC Windows

Overview
When building or reinforcing UPVC bay and curved window frames, a secure, flush and rattle-free fixing into the frame's internal aluminium or steel reinforcement is essential. These self-drilling Baypole tek screws, "Baypole" being the standard UK fenestration-trade term for this type of UPVC window-frame fixing screw, are made for exactly that job. The hardened drilling point cuts its own pilot hole through the UPVC profile and into the metal reinforcement behind it in a single pass, so there is no need to pre-drill before fixing.
The low-profile wafer head is designed to sit flush against the frame once driven home, so it doesn't foul window mechanisms, trims or blind fittings once installed, a useful detail on bay and curved frame assemblies, where clearances around moving parts and beading are often tight. A zinc-plated finish gives the screws a good baseline level of corrosion resistance against the damp conditions typical of UK window installations, and the self-tapping thread is cut to bite firmly into thin-gauge metal reinforcement, giving strong pull-out resistance and a tight, non-rattling joint once fully seated. A Phillips drive keeps the fixing straightforward with a standard driver bit.
Stocked in ten size combinations across two diameters: 4.2mm (commonly sold as gauge 8) and 4.8mm (gauge 10), with lengths from 13mm up to 80mm, there is a Baypole screw here to suit the vast majority of bay window, sill and reinforcement-fixing jobs a fenestration installer or window fitter will come across, from lighter frame-to-frame fixing through to heavier-duty reinforcement work.
Key Features
- Self-drilling point: cuts its own pilot hole through UPVC and into aluminium or steel window reinforcement without pre-drilling, saving time on site.
- Low-profile wafer head: sits flush against the frame surface once driven home for a neat finish that stays clear of window hardware and trims.
- Self-tapping thread: bites into thin-gauge metal reinforcement for a strong, secure, rattle-free fixing.
- Zinc-plated finish: corrosion-resistant coating suited to the damp conditions typical of UK window installations.
- Phillips drive: compatible with standard Phillips driver bits for quick, consistent driving.
- Two diameters for two duty levels: 4.2mm (gauge 8) for lighter frame fixing, 4.8mm (gauge 10) for heavier bay and reinforcement work.
- Wide length range: 13mm to 80mm across ten sizes, covering the full range of UPVC profile and reinforcement depths.
- Single-pass fixing: drills and taps its own thread in one operation rather than needing a separate pre-drilling step.

Typical Applications
Baypole tek screws are the standard fixing used across UPVC bay and curved window frame assembly and reinforcement work, wherever a screw needs to pass cleanly through a UPVC profile and bite securely into the aluminium or mild steel reinforcement running through it. Common jobs include:
- Assembling and reinforcing bay and curved (bow) window frames, where several frame sections need to be drawn together tight and flush against the internal reinforcement.
- Fixing sill sections and joining frame components where a rattle-free, flush-headed fixing is needed close to window mechanisms, trims and beading.
- General fenestration reinforcement fixing into aluminium or mild steel reinforcement bar up to approximately 3mm thick, as commonly found running through UPVC window profiles.
- Lighter-duty frame-to-frame and trim fixing, using the shorter 4.2mm (gauge 8) sizes from 13mm to 40mm where only shallow reinforcement penetration is needed.
- Heavier-duty bay window and reinforcement fixing through thicker profile sections, using the longer 4.8mm (gauge 10) sizes from 50mm to 80mm.
Trade-quality Baypole tek screws for professional fenestration installers and experienced tradespeople alike.
Installation Guidance
For the best results and to protect the UPVC profile:
- Use a matched Phillips driver bit seated square in the head to avoid cam-out and a stripped drive recess.
- Let the screw do the cutting. Use a moderate, steady drill speed appropriate for self-drilling screws rather than forcing the tip; excessive pressure can burn out the point or cause the screw to wander off-centre.
- Clamp profiles together before fixing so they can't jack apart as the thread engages the reinforcement behind the first material.
- Stop as soon as the head sits flush. Continuing to drive after the head seats can crush the UPVC profile or strip the thread in the thin metal reinforcement.
