Overview

Wet & dry abrasive sandpaper sheets, 230 x 280mm (9.06 x 11.02in), running the full grit range from 100 (coarse) up to 1500 (ultra-fine), with a waterproof coating that supports both traditional dry sanding and lubricated wet sanding on paint, lacquer, filler and plastic surfaces. The sheets are supplied across eight grit grades (100, 240, 360, 400, 600, 800, 1000 and 1500), covering everything from initial stock removal through to an ultra-fine finishing pass. Particle sizes across the range follow the FEPA P-grade classification (ISO 6344) for coated abrasives, the standard reference most trade and hobbyist sandpaper is graded against.

The waterproof coating keeps the abrasive grain firmly bonded to the sheet when it's used with water or a sanding lubricant, so the paper resists breaking down and clogging far better than an ordinary dry-only sandpaper would under the same conditions, a real advantage when working through several grades in sequence on the same panel. The backing itself also changes across the range to suit the job: the coarsest 100 grit sheet uses a stronger, stiffer backing built for aggressive stock removal, while the 240 grit sheet and everything finer than it uses a softer, more flexible backing that conforms closely to curved or contoured panels, which is what makes it suited to hand-flatting shaped bodywork by eye rather than only flat surfaces. Because the coating and backing are matched to the job across the whole range, the same waterproof sheet format carries a refinishing job through every stage, from first cut to final polish, simply by swapping grit rather than switching to a different type of abrasive.

Key Features

  • Sheet size held constant at 230 x 280mm (9.06 x 11.02in) across every grit in the range, so a pad or holder sized for one grit fits them all
  • Waterproof coating rated for both dry sanding and lubricated wet sanding, on paint, lacquer, filler and plastic surfaces
  • Bonded abrasive grain resists breaking down and clogging during wet use, compared with an ordinary dry-only sandpaper
  • Full eight-grade grit range from 100 (coarse) through to 1500 (ultra-fine), covering everything from stock removal to final polishing prep
  • Stronger, stiffer backing on the 100 grit sheet, built for aggressive stock removal and stripping paint or surface rust
  • Softer, more flexible backing from 240 grit upward, conforming closely to curved or contoured panels for hand-flatting by eye
  • Particle sizes graded to the FEPA P-grade classification (ISO 6344) for coated abrasives, from ≈160 microns at 100 grit down to ≈12 microns at 1500 grit
  • Suitable across paint, lacquer, filler and plastic substrates, not limited to a single material

Specification

The sheet size and waterproof coating stay the same across every grit in the range; the table below sets out the sheet format, and the grit reference table that follows sets out how each individual grade is typically used.

Sheet size Grit range Coating
230 x 280mm (9.06 x 11.02in) 100 – 1500 Waterproof, suitable for wet or dry use

Grit reference

Grit grade Typical use Nominal particle size
100 Coarse stock removal, stripping paint/rust ≈160 microns (0.006in)
240 Shaping filler, removing coarse scratches ≈60 microns (0.0024in)
360 Primer/surfacer preparation ≈40 microns (0.0016in)
400 Fine pre-paint surface preparation ≈35 microns (0.0014in)
600 De-nibbing and flatting between coats ≈26 microns (0.001in)
800 Flatting lacquer/clear coat ≈22 microns (0.0009in)
1000 Fine finishing, polishing preparation ≈18 microns (0.0007in)
1500 Ultra-fine finishing, final polishing prep ≈12 microns (0.0005in)

Particle sizes follow the FEPA P-grade classification (ISO 6344) for coated abrasives; exact grain distribution varies slightly between abrasive manufacturers, so the figures above are nominal.

Typical Applications

The grit range runs from coarse initial work through to an ultra-fine finish, so a single product line can carry a job from first cut to final polish without switching to a different type of abrasive:

  • Automotive bodywork and paint refinishing: primer/surfacer preparation with the 360 grit sheet, fine pre-paint surface preparation at 400, de-nibbing and flatting between coats at 600, cutting back lacquer or clear coat at 800, and fine-to-ultra-fine polishing preparation with the 1000 and 1500 grades
  • Stripping old paint or surface rust back to bare material with the coarse 100 grit sheet, ready for refinishing
  • Wet-flatting curved or contoured bodywork panels by hand, using the softer, flexible backing on the 240 grit sheet and finer to follow the shape of the panel rather than sand flat spots into it
  • Finishing exotic hardwoods and plastics, working from a coarser grade down through the finer grades for a progressively smoother surface
  • Sharpening or stropping whittling and carving knife edges on the finer grit sheets, where the smaller ≈18-12 micron particle sizes at 1000 and 1500 grit refine an edge without removing excess material
